But has it really? Oh it makes us feel better to say that. It even makes many feel better to know that 1 more leader of terror has been removed from this planet.

But how can we say justice is done by us when it was God that said "vengeance is mine"? Then Jesus comes along and commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves and love our enemies.

Justice is done when one brings an end to an oppressive or repulsive situation. Bin Laden's death does not bring an end to terrorist attacks. In fact it probably will now escalate it. How do we as a 'nation under God' justify putting a bullet to the head of another man? Why do we dance in the city streets over a death of anyone? Was Bin Laden not also made in the image of God? He was human, right? I certainly do not support or advocate what his life stood for and yes what he did was totally wrong, but we can not call it justice if we kill someone for killing others.

I also want to say that I support and appreciate our military when it comes to defending our nation and keeping us safe and I am grateful to be living in this country. So before you older baby boomers call me a Commi-fag or draft dodger or some other antique term, know that I love this country, but we are not the Judge or the world police. And as a follower of Jesus Christ I cannot celebrate a man's death and call it justice.

Psalm 11:5 says, "The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates." Some of the recent events by our own land reminds me of Ezekiel 22:27 when speaking of the sins of Israel, "Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain. They say, 'This is what the Lord says'-when the Lord has not spoken."

I do not have all the answers to this sensitive matter. I am far from being settled but I am seeking the whole council of God concerning this rather than selecting a couple of key verses that support my opinion. And right now this is where God has me in search of more understanding of His will in all of these world concerns.

Where do you stand on this? Can you defend your position or are you merely mimicking what you hear? Do you even care? Are you searching the Word for answers or just being mesmerized by your favorite news channel?

I just know this. In the end times, things are not to get better, but rather more challenging here on earth. So to expect total peace this side of heaven seems like a dream. But if we can learn to live and love one another locally and globally, we can get a glimpse of what it may be like "on earth as it is in heaven."

Breakthrough

<!--[if !mso]> Well, the time has come when we can testify to what God has done in our ministry for His glory.

As many know, some tremendous friends opened up their basement apartment in New Windsor, MD in late 2010 to allow Willet / Hunger Strike offices to operate out of. From the start, this was to be a "temporary location" as we got our organization developed. During the development stages of our organization while WILLET had some time off the road, they have been able to spend quality time at our non-denominational church plant, Quest Community Church, that was currently meeting in a home in Maryland.

Since Jan. 1, I have been praying for “breakthrough” for our church and extended ministries. A few weeks ago, my son, Jeremy and I were having a discussion about where God has brought our ministries from, and the direction we are headed now. Here we sat with a new year, new vision, a music ministry (Willet), a relief/development organization (The Hunger Strike), and a church (Quest Community Church). As we talked, we realized that although these entities carried 3 different titles, our goals were the same and that we could combine our ministry efforts. Our goals: Make Jesus known more in the hearts of people globally, and walk alongside of the poor both locally and abroad!

So, long story short, over the past few months, WILLET has done a complete restructuring of their "business", dissolved their incorporation (Willet, Inc), and have been absorbed as a ministry of the church to work hand-in-hand in ministry, with an increased level of accountability. Quest recently appointed Jeremy Willet as Vice President of the Board of Directors to allow him to work more directly in the business decision-making processes of the church, and oversee the missional branch of our ministry (through Willet / Hunger Strike)

But, the news gets even better!! After months of praying for "breakthrough", a friend unexpectedly took me out to breakfast. Over coffee, a family, that wishes to remain anonymous, handed a contract proposal to our ministries giving us permission to move into their 3-story complex in Pleasant Valley, MD "RENT FREE" for 2 years! This facility has a ground level warehouse for merchandise, meal packing, and storage, a 2nd level room to hold church services, and a 3rd level for 5 office rooms! We are beginning to move in immediately to continue normal office operations, and prepare the 2nd level to hold church services later this year. We will keep you posted when we will re-launch the Sunday service for Quest Community Church.

The ministries of Willet, The Hunger Strike, and now Quest Community Church have been given fresh vision, and we move forward with God's direction, trusting Him all the way. We will make the announcement as soon as church services are launched, and we hope that you'll join us in worship. Below is a photo of our new facility. There are many things written about how to grow spiritually, but I want to point out a few obvious things that spiritual growth is not.
1. It has nothing to do with our position in Christ. We don't grow into being a Christian. We become a new creation at the very moment that we accept the gift of salvation by faith. 2 Peter 1:3 says we have been given everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him.
2. It is not a matter of God's favor or God's love. Romans 5 is clear that God loved us when we were lost sinners. And as a believer, God still loves us immeasurably and unconditionally.
3. It has nothing to do with time. Some believers go through their entire life with very little growth. Others have known Christ for a short period of time and have grown in huge proportions.
4. It is not a matter of knowledge alone. It is not about what we know, rather it is what we do with what we know that matters. Knowledge alone puffs us up. It is only when the facts contribute to transformation that knowledge has anything to do with growth.
5. It has nothing to do with busyness. Being active in the church does not equal spiritual growth, it just makes you tired and can burn you out emotionally and physically.
6. It definitely has nothing to do with prosperity. Sorry health and wealth preachers! You are wrong! A rich American is no more spiritually mature than the the little orphan believer in Haiti or Africa. So stop going to these countries and spreading your false teachings. One's economic status does not gain you favor with God or a promotion on the spiritual growth ladder. God may have blessed you financially, but that is not a yardstick for spiritual growth. And if He has, I pray you are blessing others with your abundance to His glory.

Light in the Darkness

Since my return to the states from a recent trip to Mozambique with my sons and a local youth pastor, I am still reflecting on how different the rest of the world lives.

This year and next in the US, there will be hundreds of conferences and a many conversations over coffee revolving around the topic of justice and the church. Some of these exchanges will actually be worth the effort. But some will be mere talk. I’m concerned about the latter group.
It is not okay to spend the equivalent of an at risk child’s livelihood for a year on a conference about poverty… and then do nothing. It is not okay to drink a $4 espresso drink, while chatting with friends about “how bad” we feel about “those poor people”, and then do nothing.
It is unacceptable that 27 million people in the world are living in slavery. Then there's over a billion living on less than $1 a day. It's hard to fathom that over 800 million do not have access to clean drinking water. There is no question that the Church ought to be light in a world so dark. The question is will the Church be the light that is needed?

It will take more than slapping on our wrist a ONE Campaign bracelet, or going without food for a day. Especially when $32/month can rescue a child from poverty and help transform an entire community where he/she lives.

The prophet Micah: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (6:8)
Sounds pretty simple. Love mercy. Do justice. Walk humbly. I didn't say easy, but it is simple.

I recently returned from a drought-parched community called Gorongosa, Mozambique. It had not rained there since March! They had many crops planted in very rich soil, yet the harvest would be small because of lack of rain. We took the Light of Jesus to a land that was dark from the evils and traditions of witchcraft and and ancestral spirits. We prayed for rain, we prayed for healing, we added input to community leaders about malaria prevention, we trained and encouraged pastors, and we walked for miles in the bush of Africa to visit over 24 sponsored children in their homes. We built relationships with new friends and leaders halfway around the globe that we intend to continue to pray and fast for.

Like I said, not easy, but it is simple. the Church must arise to be the light in the darkness!

To get personally involved in stamping out global poverty by sponsoring a child, check out www.willetonline.com or www.questcc.org.

Can God Bless America Again?

Have you ever asked this question, 'Can God bless America again?' I have asked it and my initial answer was "Sure, God's hand has always been on this country." But then I started to think through how empty and unsupportive that sounded.
I recently returned from 10 days in country in Haiti. We sensed God's presence there among those living in extreme poverty. We had great, intimate worship and communion at night in an open-air church with bats flying over our heads, 1 cheap guitar, no electricity or running water, 2 solar powered camping lanterns and I felt closer to God than I have for a long time.
So it's not about the country, the location and definitely not what your church building looks like or how you dress for church. So what is it that brings God's blessings? And how can God bless America again?
First of all, we are not a covenant nation like Israel. God has never promised to guarantee our super power status forever.
Secondly, God has promised us as believers that salvation, mercy, forgiveness and spiritual maturity are ours as we remain faithful to God.
The answer to God's blessings for America is not going to come from presidential candidates promising us change or big business bailouts. The answer is not going to come from oil profits, from oppression of the poor, or from building up massive warheads and killing one another for dominance. The answer is not positive thinking messages from the pulpit, or Glenn Beck rallies and Sarah Palin tea parties.
The key to God's blessings begins with the spiritual state of THE CHURCH. Not your church or my church but THE CHURCH. If God is going to ever bless America again, it will not be for the sake of the nation itself. He is not partial to just the red, white, and blue as many may believe. But He is a jealous God who demands holiness from His people because He alone is holy and cannot tolerate sin.
God blesses a nation and has always blessed nations for the sake of His people. If we as the Church are not fulfilling the conditions for divine blessing, there is no hope for the rest of the nation, regardless of what country you live in.
But when The Church is healthy and living fit to receive God's blessings, when we are on our knees in prayer and worship and striving to live a set apart life, the whole nation reaps the benefits of His blessings. Why? Because the truth of the Word of God will be preached with power and with no apology. It will not be to tickle the ears of the complacent and lukewarm. When the Word is proclaimed with power, God will add to His Church and more spiritual blessings are poured out on His people and nations.
In 1 Peter 4:17 we read, "Judgment must begin at the house of God." God is watching his people.
So can God bless America again? I say Yes, but we have a long way to go because The Church must first repent and get back on track before the rest of our nation can reap the benefits of God's blessings.
Are you up to the challenge or are you going to just go for the ride to glory? Are you willing to serve Him with reckless abandon and surrendered hearts, or are you going to coast across the finish line on the draft of those running the race? Are you going to be with and serve the poor and broken or are you satisfied with dropping an occasional dollar in the plate for missions? Are you going to be a witness in word and deed for the Almighty, or do you remain silent because your ticket to heaven is already punched?

Honoring Moms

Today is a day we traditionally set aside to honor our mothers. I must say I thank God for the mother I have. She is a godly woman, a woman of prayer, and a lady who has always made family a priority.
I also want to honor my wife who has been a fantastic mother to our 3 sons. Her care, her prayers, and her constant encouragement is a blessing to us all at the Willet household.
And I also send out a thank you to my daughter-in-law in Haiti who is a "mother" to the orphans of Haiti.
Happy Mother's Day to all. Some have made major changes in their eating habits and have dropped the pounds. Others know about it, but choose to ignore what they know allowing the fat to continue to attach itself to one's physique.
On a spiritual level, we also have the choice to make. We can either follow the Master's plan for spiritual growth and maturity, or we can choose to ignore it even when we know about it.
I would like to propose that the Western Church consider a fat-free faith. One that cuts away all the excess, all the fatty things that bog our churches down.
We have had steady a diet for years in America of books, tapes, dvds, conferences, seminars, seminaries. We build bigger and better buildings onto the ones we already have, but are we sending out any to the fields for the harvest/ Or are we merely fixing up and painting our fences to keep them all in the yard?
Yet with all of that knowledge and all of these resources, Christianity and the impact of the local church is losing grounds it seems.
A fat-free faith is one that asks us to internalize the mind of Christ. It causes us to lay aside our selfish ways and take up the cross. Your new lifestyle should you choose the fat-free faith, will be one marked by submission to the Father's will, not man's demands. Fat-free faith is a life of sacrifice, service and suffering for the Lord's sake. It will cause you to love the ones that are not loved, walk where others will not walk, interact with sinners and walk in the shoes of others instead of passing judgment upon them.
The Western Church is full of students of Christianity. But where are the disciples? Sooner or later, the medical student and intern must step out of the classroom and open his own practice and perform his own surgery. Where are the disciples who are stepping out? We are so busy learning about Christ that we forget to follow Christ. We soak in the Bible studies, but never squeeze ourselves out on anybody. We attend prayer meetings to have our needs prayed for rather praying to tear down the spiritual barriers that exist in our nation. We even have gotten comfortable with learning about unreached people groups and learning about missions rather than preparing and sending missionaries to the field.
How can a country like ours that has such rich, deep-rooted Christian culture, fail to pass on what we know as the truth to an audience that is desperately searching for truth today? This
mentality of feed-me-first and health and wealth preaching over the last 50 years has produced a generation of fat Christians who appear to know all the answers and are quick to tell them to you, but they won't go across the street to help a neighbor in distress. They are first in line at the Christian potluck so they can get seconds, but they refuse to skip a meal to feed those who have nothing to eat.
Fat-free faith will strip and detox that out of your system. You and your ministry can become a lean machine that is quite healthy. Get rid of the excess and feed on what is good. I highly recommend you give it a try. Better yet, don't just try it. Make it your life.

Where are the Men?

As a church planter and a Pastor who travels internationally doing Pastor Conferences, it never ceases to amaze me how few men there are that are really sold out and involved in the work of the Lord. Think about your own church or ministry. Who are teaching the kids? Mostly women right? Who is singing? Who is going to small groups? Mostly the women right? How about extra prayer gatherings? Who is there? The women of the church, right? Who serves the community in outreach projects or cleanup projects? Mostly women.

The church needs men! Where are the men? Ladies, don't start yelling at me about women vs. men in the church leadership battle that is so prevalent today. I am not devaluing females at all. Each gender has their roles and responsibilities and I believe a true student of the Word can see that very clearly. I may add that one of the reasons that there are so many more ladies leading in the church today is because men for the most part have checked out of the church.

Yeah, yeah I know men are so-o-o busy. Right, like women today are not. That doesn't cut it with me. Check out your family heritage before using that excuse. My father worked 2 jobs in addition to farming. My grandfather was a dirt farmer during the Depression. They worked harder lives than any of us reading this will ever know, yet when Sunday came they were in church. In fact come to think of it, whenever the church had a service they were there. Why? It's called priority. It's called loving God with all our heart, mind and strength.

Well, perhaps Sunday is the only day off. Yeah, cool-that's the way it is supposed to be. That's why it is called the Sabbath, not 'Me Day'. Sunday is not about us, it is about setting aside a day to worship. Instead we fill it with 75 sports games and practices, mowing the lawns, washing the pickup, waxing the boat, weeding the garden, and we wander why we have no energy for Monday. And somehow, because Mom took the kids to Sunday school, the "Man of the house" thinks he has it together because he has "provided for his family."

Men, I love ya but I'm kicking some of your butts(with love) because it is high time you step up and lead and serve in the church the way God designed you and gifted you to do. Put down the Bud Light and the monkey wrench, and pick up the Word. Learn what it really means to be a man. Learn what God intended for you to do. When was the last time you asked Him for wisdom or for how you could serve Him? When was the last time you prayed? When was the last time you asked your wife what you could do for her? When was the last time you asked your Pastor, "Is there anything I can help you with?"

We need you men serving alongside us in the church today. Rise up and take the challenge. The Church as a whole will be edified by doing so. To God be the glory.

Giving

It has been said many times by leaders and missionaries of the past that you cannot give what you do not possess. I could really focus here on the negative aspect of this. I could rebuke governments for giving away what we don't have which results in printing money without backing it in gold. I could talk about personal credit card debt of Americans who give gifts and presents while having nothing in the account to back it up.
But I want to speak positively to make us think about others for a change instead of the big ME.
Your life and mine is NOT about Me. Its not about what can I get. For example your marriage will not last if it is about what you get out of it. Rather it is about serving and loving the one chosen to be your spouse and having Christ in the center of that relaitonship.
but think about the following examples and perhaps dialogue with some others close to you about it. It may change your life, your relationships, maybe even the place that you live. Wouldn't that be radical?

-You cannot give money until you have made some yourself.
-You cannot give away a song unless you have a song in your heart.
-You cannot give clean water if you do not have the resources or the know-how to give it.
-You cannot give away fresh vegetables if you never planted your garden.
-You cannot give away firewood if you never cut any.
-You cannot give hope to others if you do not possess it yourself.
-You cannot give shelter to the homeless if you do not have it or know how to provide yourself.
-You cannot give advice to those in another language until you possess the skills or have a tranlsator that can speak their language.
-You cannot give away Jesus unless you have Him yourself.
-You cannot give away love unless you possess it yourself.
-You cannot minister with compassion unless you already possess it.

You cannot give what you do not possess. What is it that you want to give? Do you possess it yourself? If not why? If not what will you do about it?

Social Justice

So after 3 days of heavy rain and strong winds in my hometown in Md., I caught myself saying several times, "tough night for the homeless." Though I am not one, I have ministered to many homeless and poor on the city streets and in poverty-stricken countries.

Jesus said whatever we do for "the least of these", we do unto him. Yet today churches are still trying to figure out what to do with the poor. We sit in slumber in our padded pews, giving comforting 'talks' from the pulpit that keep the congregants coming back and writing checks for offering. As long as we don't make them mad, they will return. Then there are the Joel Osteen types that make you feel really good about yourself, tell you how to live in an unreal world, and guarantee you prosperity.

Meanwhile millions of children try to survive without food and clean water with little or no hope of a future or longevity while we are adding gymnasiums for the youth, building commercial kitchens to host the quarterly church fund-raising spaghetti dinner and forming the summer 'all-Christian' softball leagues.

Then there are the Glenn Becks who recently ruined my respect for Fox News. In a recent broadcast he makes a statement saying 'if your church has on their website the words "social justice", you need to run as fast as you can! ' Beck continued by saying, "Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!"

As a church planter trying to be faithful in a culture that is more anti-church all the time, I really question Beck's motives in all of this. His reasoning was because Nazism and Communism both waved the banner of social justice. Yeah their answer to the poor was to take from the rich and give it to the government so the people become slaves to the government. Come to think of it, this sort of sounds like what is going on in this country now. Down through history, socialism always had a way of doing away with the middle class. Either you are wealthy as a dictator, or big government or you were among the poor.

Contrary to the talking head that feels he has the authority to tell you to leave your church, Jesus spoke about social justice many times. He gave honor to the poor, he showed respect to the broken and hurting. He fed them and gave them clothes and taught his disciples by example to do the same. It was the religious, legalistic, Pharisaical crowd that Jesus had the hardest time with. He always felt comfortable around the poor because he lived the life of a homeless man for several years of his adult life.

Perhaps Mr. Beck needs to go on a mission trip, take a break from the concrete jungle and get some dirt on those shiny shoes. Walking and working among the poor will change your life. I highly recommend it while we still have time to make a difference.

Cup of Coffee Anyone?

I recently was sent the following story from my sister in law that I just had to pass on. Perhaps you are like I am and just love a good cup of coffee. But I never thought about being a cup of coffee until I read this. Check it out...
A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee. A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how hard things were for her. She was tired of fighting and struggling and she wanted to give up.
Her mother took her to the kitchen and heated up 3 pots of water. When the pots came to boil, she first placed carrots into the first pot. In the second pot she placed eggs and in the third she placed ground coffee beans. She left them sit and boil without saying a word.
20 minutes later, the mother placed the carrots, the eggs and the coffee in separate bowls. She then asked her daughter to tell her what she saw. "Carrots, eggs, and coffee" she said. The mother asked her to feel the carrots. She did so and noticed they were soft. Then she took an egg and broke it and peeled the shell off of the hardboiled egg. Finally, the mother asked her to take a sip of coffee. She enjoyed the fine aroma and took a healthy sip of the fresh brewed coffee. The daughter then asked, "What does all this mean?"
Her mother explained that all 3 objects faced the same adversity-boiling water. But each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after being in the hot water, it eventually softened and became mushy and weak. The egg went in fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected the liquid inside, but after sitting in the hot water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique however. After they were in the hot water for awhile, they actually changed the water. "Which are you?" asked the daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee?"
How about you? Are you more like the carrot that seems to be strong, but under adversity you soften up and lose strength and wilt away?
Or are you more like the egg that hardens with the changes of heat. Does your shell look the same but on the inside you have a bitter and tough spirit?
Or are you like the coffee bean? When the water gets hot, you actually change the water-releasing a great fragrance, changing the color and taste of the very thing that brought the heat.
Perhaps today you know someone that you can share this with to encourage them. Who do you know that has given up hope? Perhaps even you have? May I suggest taking some time and having a cup of coffee with them or better yet be a cup of coffee for someone.

Reflections from the Blizzard of 2010

After hours of shoveling and moving snow just to get out of the driveway, I sit by my fireplace with feet propped up, a hot cup of coffee, and TV tuned to the Super Bowl. 25 " of wet, heavy snow slammed our area. It would be easy to moan and groan about how much work the snow made. It would be easy to complain about standing in lines at the stores for food. It would be easy, as many have, to gripe about being housebound for 2 days because they don't know how to talk to the family they live with. But then I started to think about those who have a whole lot more to complain about then me. I remember a pastor friend of mine who lost his wife this week to cancer. I remember the ones with disabilities who can't hold a shovel let alone move snow with it. I remember the homeless locally and abroad who have no property to call their own.

So instead I choose to look at the positive-my sons were home to help shovel, my neighbor showed up with a tractor. We offered to help neighbors with our shovels.

But other things came to mind as well. We have heat in our homes, food in the kitchen, warm clothes to wear. I thought of those in Haiti that are using shovels, but moving rubble to uncover bodies and possessions. Thousands have made the streets their home because their homes were demolished by the earthquake.

As we go for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th drink while watching the Super Bowl and we eat our 3rd bowl of chili, maybe lift up a prayer for the orphan who is looking for his 1st meal and his first taste of clean water for the whole week. As we yell in celebration for our favorite team scoring a touchdown, maybe think about the last time the people in Haiti had anything to cheer about in the last week. As we laugh at the crazy Super Bowl commercials, maybe think about those who have shed tears in grief and could really use a laugh.

And in all of this contrast from the good to the bad, let's remember there is a Savior who loves all of us-He created us, He created the snow to remind us of His cleansing power, and He loves us, Oh how He loves us!

Gaining Perspective

As a pastor who has travelled to Africa and Haiti, and as a father who has a daughter-in-law serving in an orphanage in Haiti and three sons that travel worldwide as musicians and advocates for the poor with Food for the Hungry, I have been trying to gain perspective on the recent tragedy in Haiti.
After the 2nd major quake hit the island earlier this week, a friend and prayer warrior, Matt, sent me an email with some statistics that helped me grasp the magnitude of this event.
Matt is from Harford County, Md. which has a population of around 233,000. The closest city limit to my home has around 6,300 people. Recent death toll has risen in Haiti to 110,00 with numbers expected to be around 200,000+. Imagine waking up one morning and Harford County is gone. imagine for us Carroll County, Md. people that Westminster and Taneytown are now wiped out.
Here's another one Matt passed onto. the population of Baltimore City and Baltimore County is close to 1.3 million people. It has been reported that there are now approximately 1.5 million homeless people in Haiti.
I recently stayed up all night with some dear brothers feeding and clothing around 50-60 homeless people in Baltimore City Friday night. I know we made a difference, but it gave me a new persective on the amount of ministry that is needed in Haiti. Can you picture what it looks like to see 1.5 million people without a home?
God help the people of Haiti rebuild and may God hear the cry of His people as we pray and worship the Lord Almighty.

Hello from Haiti

Ever since the Tuesday earthquake rocked the Haiti community, all my family and church longed to hear was 'Hello from Haiti'. My daughter-in-law Kathleen is a missionary at an orhanage there about 100 miles SW of Part-au-Prince.
We saw first hand the power of prayer and the love of the Body of Christ through the anxious days of waiting.
With my sons (WILLET) touring in New Zealand, and Kat in Haiti, my wife and I began to pray. Two nights I prayed into the early hours of the night. The church prayed, old friends contacted us on FBook saying they were praying. I participated in an all-night prayer gathering in which hands were laid on me while praying for my family and the people of Haiti.
Special thanks to Geoff in New Zealand who called me with phone numbers to reach my sons and to all who have been great hosts for them while touring. Thanks to my many brothers and sisters down under who prayed and supported my sons during this waiting period.
Thanks to Pam and Fern from Mission Haiti, and to our freinds at Food for the Hungry for supplying any information they received.
Well its now Sunday, we still haven't heard "Hello from Haiti" by telephone yet because of communication lines, but we have recieved text messages, emails and seen FBook entries assuring us that Kathleen is OK and the other members of the orphanage, especially the children are all accounted for.
We experienced the comfort, strength and peace that only comes from Christ our Lord. Where does your strength and peace come from in unstable, troubled times? Who is it that holds you up when you feel like collapsing? If you are a believer in Jesus, do you praise Him in the storm as well as in the sunshine?
We do not hold our own destiny in this life-our lives are fragile and held in the loving hands of our Heavenly Father. Do you know Him?

Call to Consecration

Consecration is a word we don't hear too much anymore in our culture, but it is a word we desperately need to pay attention to. Consecration is more than service or duty. It is living a life of personal holiness. It is a life submitted to the power of prayer. It is through prayer that we can shake off the entanglements of this world and receive the power to endure. It is through habitual and effective prayer that we become more set apart in holiness. Perfect? No, but moving towards holiness? Yes!
It is a life of making right decisions and choices no matter what the circumstance and regardless of who is involved.
E.M. Bounds wrote, "Consecration is the setting apart of all we are, all we have, and all we expect to have or be, to God first of all."
Are you giving your all to God? Is your life one of consecration and separation? Do your goals for 2010 reflect a consecrated life?

By Faith

I have been slowly reading through Hebrews 11 and learning so much about faith. Almost every verse begins with "by faith..." What great stories of courage and willingness to be stretched beyond measure. But I was really challenged when I got to verses 17-40.
When Abraham was tested by God to offer his only son Isaac as a sacrifice, Abraham remained faithful, reasoning that God could raise the dead.
In verse 25, Moses chose to be mistreated rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin. It says 'he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.' Then in vs. 35-40, men and women remained faithful even in spite of torture, of jeers, of floggings, of imprisonment. Some were stoned, others were sawn in two!
But vs. 39-40 blew me away when we read that "they were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned somethng better..." You see it wasn't about the reward or the prize they may or may not receive here on earth.
So I ask you the same question I asked myself after reading this-How strong is your faith? Are you obedient when God asks you to do something? Are you willing to be tortured, flogged, imprisoned or will you compromise your faith for convenience, favors, and affirmation?
These men and women were "looking of a better country-a heavenly one"(v.16). What are you looking for? Is this life all you need or want, or is there something much better ahead waiting for you after this life? If you believe we are merely aliens or strangers in this land, than our lives should reflect that. There is nothing here to keep us if God has a better place for us. How about living 2010 'by faith'? Because faith is about holding fast to Jesus-no matter what! Instead of telling others you have faith, let them see it in you this year.

Living it Out

Is it just me or is there a recent surge stressing the need for taking care of the poor? Is THE CHURCH really stepping it up like scripture commands us to do or is it now just cool to be about the poor? Was it because Bono made speeches asking 'Where is the Church?" Or is it because mega churches like Willow Creek and Saddleback are now pouring millions into missions and AIDS prevention and clean water efforts? Is that why it is cool-because the "big churches" are now involved?
I propose we need to be involved with fighting poverty and taking care of the poor first and foremost because we are commanded to do so, not because we are blindly following the efforts of another church or ministry. Fighting poverty is not a fad or passing church strategy that is quickly shelved when the next new concept of 'doing church' comes down the pike. If the Church is going to BE the Church, then, we that are the church, must stop just talking about it and begin to live it out.
We live it out by being among the poor, praying for the poor, sharing or giving of our possessions, supporting causes and ministries that impact the poor, and by making conscious choices in our own lifestyles. What do you do with your time? Where have you volunteered recently? Who do you support financially? Where do you send your checks? Who do you buy from?
With Christmas around the corner, everyone is shopping feverishly for that perfect gift. We rummage through all of the multiple choices we have at the mall, we battle for position in line at the register like a defensive lineman, we throw our plastic down-One Hundred, Two Hundred, Three Hundred... and worry about paying it later. We add more stuff to our living quarters, add more pounds to our waistlines, and count our blessings for how good we have it.
Meanwhile there is a man outside in the bushes trying to find refuge under his cardboard box to keep out of the cold rain. There is a family going to bed hungry because Dad still hasn't found work for the winter since budget cuts at the old job left him unemployed. There's an elderly person sitting by an open kitchen stove trying to keep warm because they can't pay their utility bill. Then of course there are the millions of orphans in 3rd world countries like Ethiopia and Haiti that I have visited that scrounge for 1 meal of rice today and walk miles to pour clean water into a container from a community well that was provided for by believers who sacrificed some money and lived out what the Bible commands.
It takes more than talk to make a dent in poverty. It takes sacrifice, planning, lots of prayer, commitment and living out what you say you really do believe. How strongly do you really believe? Your life will prove it.
As you prepare for Christmas and the hope that comes with the season, consider how you may provide hope for some 'of the least of these.'

With All Your Heart

A friend of mine recently gave us a scare with 70% blockage of an artery in his heart. After inserting a stent to keep the vessels open, he is now recovering at home. It caused me to think about my own heart and what it means when scripture says to seek the Lord with all your heart. Jer. 29:13 says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
Jesus taught in Matt. 5:8, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." The writer of Hebrews in chapter 10:22, encourages us to "draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.."
To love God with all our heart, to serve Him with all our heart, we must stay very connected with God. Perhaps that's why Jesus told us that the branch must stay close to the Vine. For our heart to be healthy, we must hear the cry of His heart. We must bring our desires into alignment with His and submit our agenda to His.
We must live lifestyles that keep our heart in sync with the heart of God. We cannot live as we want and then think we can just burst into his presence in times of crisis and tragedy. We need to stay in close relationship with Him daily so that when the tough days come our hearts are still in tune with Him in a deep, intimate way.
I do not serve a Santa Claus Jesus in which I only call on Him a few times a year and submit a wish list that I expect Him to deliver on. I serve a Risen Lord that desires a relationship with me that is real and a heart that is sincere. He does not want some half-cooked allegiance that only calls on Him in times of need. He wants a disciple that follows Him with all of his heart, takes up his cross and walks the path He has in store for each of us.

Battleground or Playground?

It has been said, "You can tell a lot about a man by who his enemies are." This is definitely true when it comes to the Christian life. As a follower of Christ, we enter a battleground, not a playground. It is hardly a life of ease, wealth and prosperity as some may preach about.

Rather it is a life scarred by conflict, spiritual warfare and intense opposition. When we surrendered our life to Jesus Christ, we made Him our Commander in Chief. By doing so we also acquired a new enemy-one who heads up a vicious network that is bigger than the Verizon network.

Victor Hugo was quoted as saying, "A good general must penetrate the brain of his enemy." To win a war, one must know the strategies and tactics of the adversary. He is the master of deceit and disguise. He is a liar and he wants nothing more than to bring misery to your household.

The choice of whether we win this war or not is up to us. To fight off the enemy's temptations, we must use the weapons we have been given. What good is training and equipping the soldier if he leaves his weapons and his know-how in the barricks?

If you want to make a difference with your life in this dark world, you will meet the enemy head on. So strap on your gear, prepare for the battle and follow your Commander in Chief. You are on the winning side. Get off of the playground and march onto the battlefield!

A VOICE FOR THE POOR

So I am back from yet another mission trip to a third world country-this time it was Haiti. It's always amazing to me the different reactions we get as we share stories and pictures of our adventure in a poverty-stricken country. Many are very supportive, some are relieved they didn't go, then the there are the ones who just don't quite get it yet. That's OK I was there one time myself, until I put myself in the midst of the poor.

For the ones who say things like "africa's just not my thing..." or "what about the poor here in our own country?", I would like to address that. Allow me to be a voice for the poor for you. Maybe 'Africa isn't your thing'. To that I simply ask 'What is your thing then?' Instead of shooting holes in my calling and telling me what you aren't about, how about living out what you are for?

To those who say 'what about the poor here in our country', I say this. Poverty is poverty, though there are different extremes of it. And I say there is no longer any excuse that children should die for lack of food, clean water or medicine regardless of whether the child is in Africa, Appalachia, or down your street.

There are no excuses for keeping blinders on either. The facts have been gathered. The government continues to sleep on the issue. The Church is finally catching on to the idea after a rock star kicked them in the butt.

If it is ignorance because of lack of knowledge on the matter I give one grace. I was once there also. But when you are presented with the facts of poverty and one still turns away from the problem with complacency then I have this to say.

The next time you and the boys stay home from church to watch Jr. run his Nascar machine around the track, make sure you invite the one you know who just lost his job and pass him one of your cold ones. Maybe that's a start for you. Make sure you give him one of those fine sandwiches you whipped up too.

The next time you plop your potbelly in the recliner to watch the big NFL game, and you reach for the 2nd helping of buffalo wings, remember the homeless guy you passed or the single mom struggling to meet her bills. Hey maybe call them up and invite them over...oh that's right they can't afford a cell phone. Well at least you thought about them...

Well, maybe Africa or Haiti is not your thing, but at least you are giving your tithe at church, right? I mean you are doing that right? So maybe some money is getting in the hands to help someone.

Oh and while I am going off, for those that can afford the skyboxes this year, don't forget to tip the guys that park your Escalade. And hey here's an idea, maybe throw the Vietnam vet on the street corner a quarter-that will make you feel so good.

So I'll keep travelling to the countries you don't want to go to or are not interested in helping. I'll hold the naked babies, preach through a translator to the ones that churches have turned away, and pray for the ones who will die barring a miracle because there is no doctor in their village. And you help take care of things back in good old USA and we both win. Because together we end up stamping out poverty.

I know what the bible says about the poor. I know what God has asked me to do concerning the poor. My question is what has God asked you to do? Have you even asked Him?

Proud to be a Poppa

Ah yes-Father's Day. One of my favorite days. Not only do I get to honor an incredible father that I greatly respect and love, but I get to reflect on my time of being a Dad as well.
Make no bones about it I am proud to be a poppa of 3 fantastic sons. What joy it brings me to know that all 3 sons love the Lord and are serving Him in full-time ministry. As musicians and spokespersons for Food for the Hungry, they are able to minister to many youth, speak up for justice, and demonstrate the love and compassion that is so desparately needed for the orphans of this world. See www.willetonline.com.
I do not apologize nor second guess the decisions my wife and I have made in raising our children that allowed them to pursue their dreams and passions as God opened up doors for them to walk through. Decisions like sending them to public schools rather than private so they could be salt and light in the school hallways, ballfields, and classrooms. Decisions like allowing Justin to graduate early and get his GED, followed by allowing Jordan to homeschool on the road so he could graduate early and get his GED. This has allowed the brothers to tour together at a very young age. Decisions like foregoing college or "getting a real job" as some insensitives have called it so they could use their gifts now for God. Decisions like cutting back on luxuries and pleasures to be able to support, encourage, counsel, and help provide basic needs as they tour as an independant band.
And now as all 3 sons are adults, to not only love them as a father, but to enjoy our time together like best friends, to play hard and competetive with sports and to always be able to talk to any of my sons about anything that is happening in their life. I am truly blessed.
What a day it was to see Jeremy give his wedding vows to Kat. She has been a great addition to the family as well. Her love and support of Jeremy is exemplary and I love her like my own daughter.
What a joy it is to be WILLET's bandpastor and most recently to travel with them and do ministry with them in Ethiopia and later in August in Haiti.
Would I do it all over again? You bet! But I would do more of it knowing what I know now.
Thanks guys for making fatherhood an awesome experience and responsibility.

A Voice That Must Be Heard

Recently my son sent me 2 blog entries from Switchfoot's frontman Jon Foreman about our countries lack of response to genocide in Darfur. What he had to say just gets my blood boiling. There is a voice that must be heard and the truth must be shouted from the rooftops.
President Obama said before coming into office: "We can't ignore the genocide in Darfur... We have to do everything in our power to make it stop. We have to act. Now." what has been done...Nothing!!
Oh he has been busy undoing and reversing any moral principles from previous administrations. Making sure the gay agenda advances with same sex marriages, making sure the unborn baby who had no voice can be aborted because they are unwanted or because it will cramp the style of a young mother who is not ready for the responsibility. Let's not forget the $1.5 Billion emergency fund our President released to protect us from the 'swine flu' that has killed 3 people in the US. I feel much safer now-I could just hug a pig...To keep that in perspective, what would be needed to deal with a problem in Darfur that killed over 300,000 already? Yet we do nothing.
Today's hot news story was Socal Security going bankrupt by 2012, Yankees with the help of A-Roid still playing .500 ball, Dodgers Manny being Manny for failing drug test, and all yeah there is some airport in Denver that may have to close because of prairie dogs digging up their runway. Important stuff huh.
There is a voice that must be heard and the truth must be told. Jesus Saves is the eternal answer. But while we are still here how can we remain silent over the atrocities of human life?
Meanwhile, every couple of seconds another child dies, another child becomes an orphan because of genocide or AIDS, or from hunger. Tick, tock, tick, tock...another child is gone...tick, tock, tick, tock...another child dies...
Hello Mr. President-What time is it on your watch??!!

Whatever

I recently began reading a short book by Mike Breaux called Making Ripples. Breaux brings up the point that either we have a destiny and a purpose or our life is merely accidental.
If we are an accident, born with nothing, and for nothing, than we end up with nothing also. That means that anything in between also results in nothing.
Some have labeled this current generation as the 'whatever generation'. If there is no destiny or purpose, then there is no truth, and no rules, and no right or wrong-its just a big 'whatever'.
67% of students cheat on exams-whatever. 66% drink alcohol-whatever. 56% shoplift-whatever. Sex before marriage?-whatever. Walk doesn't match your talk?-whatever. Responsibility?-whatever. Suicidal thoughts?-whatever. Hunger, poverty, AIDS?-whatever.
But God is not a 'whatever' kind of God. He is a Destiny Maker who wants to pour out his love and leadership into your life. He said through the prophet Jeremiah, "For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." Jer. 29:11
That sure doesn't sound like a 'whatever' kind of existence to me. He will keep on changing us, molding us in order to create in us 'whatever' He desires of us or requires of us.
This generation CAN stop saying 'whatever' and begin to become 'whatever' God has created and designed you to become if you just submit and yield to Him.

Opening Day

There is something beautiful about Opening Day. Perhaps it's the end of winter. Maybe it's the invitation to get back outside. The grass is green again, the sun is trying to shine warm again. But Opening Day is a renewal of hope. A hope that one's favorite baseball team can have a great season for this year.

Every team has the same record on Opening Day. Hey even my loyalty to the Orioles allows me to see Baltimore in 1st place on Opening Day. Perhaps this is the year when my sons can finally see the Orioles compete and be a winning team. All the batters are batting 1.000, none of the pitchers have taken a loss, none of the bullpen pitchers have given up a game-winning HR. No one has been charged for taking steroids yet. Regardless of salaries, everyone is at the starting block with hope that this is a great season for them.

Opening Day brings out the youthfulness in us. We all feel young again-like grabbing the leather and the hardwood and running out to the park.

In these tough economic times, I cannot agree with the inflated salaries and ticket prices, etc. but I still love the game and I love Opening Day.

And for this Oriole fan, I got a bonus this year. We defeated the Yankees 10-5! I have to say it.. The Orioles are in 1st place and the Yankees are in last place. What a beautiful thing!

What are your thoughts, memories, expectations of Opening Day?

No Favorites

James instructed and pleaded with the early church to not show favoritism. He shared a story about a wealthy person and a poor person being treated quite differently when they entered the meeting. The rich was given special treatment and given a good seat. On the other hand the poor was asked to stand or to sit on the floor.

Unfortunately the church of our day still needs to improve on this. I pray our church leaders are not swayed by the ones who write the bigger checks, or who dress with the latest, greatest fashions. I pray we do not overlook the needs of the common, hard-working man/woman or snub our noses at the poor.

It took a Barnabas to break down barriers in the church to allow Saul to be part of the early church when he became Paul after conversion. Thank God the church did not close their door to him. But I wonder how many Pauls' are out there that are still not welcome in some churches-what do they look like today?

Are they wearing leather and riding Harleys? Perhaps it is the Gothic teen that no one pays attention to? Maybe it's the lonely widow who fights off depression or suicidal thoughts? Is it the small contractor that has no work right now or the carpenter next door that just lost his job?

Or is it the homeless man you pass every day while going to Starbucks? Or perhaps its the tattooed 'wanna be a rock star' that lives in your neighborhood?

Lev. 19:15, says "Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly."

God has no favorites-what does that mean to us?

Making a Difference One Life at a Time

Since returning from our recent mission trip to Ethiopia, I was really affirmed that we can all make a difference-for some it may be making one huge impact on society by inventing a new gadget to save us time, or discovering a cure that affects thousands. But for most of us common people, we can make a difference one life at a time.

How have you invested into lives of others? How much do you give or sacrifice for others? Are they things that glorify God and add to the Kingdom?

For years we have sponsored children in Brazil and Ethiopia on a monthly basis. But getting to actually meet those children, sit in their humble homes, meet their families, share their coffee, embrace them, play ball with them, and hold their hands in yours as you walk thru their villages, I was convicted that these orphans are no longer a statistic. They are a life that matters to God and therefore matters to me.

We also saw firsthand progress being made-roads being constructed, others being blacktopped, buildings being constructed, schools getting desks and libraries supplied, churches being multiplied and filled with people hungry for the things of God. We saw hope in the eyes of the children, the social workers, the pastors. We toured a brand new hospital offering 140 beds to treat patients whether they can pay or not.

It's amazing what $32 month can do to make a difference. By saving one life from Aids, starvation, and oppression, we will never know just how many other lives will be impacted . By bringing one child to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, we will never know this side of heaven how many more will be reached.

Want to make a difference one life at a time? What American can not afford $32 month to sponsor a child and make a difference "the least of these" that have no means to speak for themselves?

You can begin making a difference at fh.org/willetonline.com.

Speaking for the Children

Since coming back from our trip to Ethiopia, I sense an even greater need to speak for the children who are not heard. While trying to be cautious to not sound judgmental, some things I just cannot remain silent about.

Yesterday while listening to an Orioles preseason game, the broadcasters began to share some personal things about Yankee slugger Alex "Aroid" Rodriguez. They said he got a real sweet deal on a condo in Manhatten because of the economic slump we are in. The sweet deal he got came in the form of $30,000 a month rent for this condo! How sweet indeed. SIKE!!

Don't get me wrong, I am still pro-American. I am still pro-free enterprise and the American dream, etc. My point in this blog is this. $30,000 a month would support 1,000 orphan children fighting for survival in Ethiopia. 1,000! I just hope there is a place in the heart of the "Aroids" of this world to go beyond themselves and their extravagant lifestyles to make a difference in cultures where they have very little hope to succeed or survive.

If you want a real sweet deal and want to make a difference in the life of a child for just $32/month, check out www.fh.org/willet

The First Time

Upon returning from a 10-day mission trip to Zeway, Ethiopia, I find myself reflecting on several first time experiences.
It was my first time:
-flying in an aircraft for 23 hours
-traveling to Ethiopia
-preaching with a translator
-seeing poverty at its maximum level
-having starving, sick children embrace me
-seeing hundreds of poor beggars plead for money and food
-seeing naked children playing in street gutters
-worshipping with brothers/sisters in a different language and finding no barriers
-teaching a pastors school to a fellowship of pastors from 14 other churches
-feeling very out of control of my safety and circumstance
-living without clean water
-living without electric and working toilets
-meeting my sponsored children
-going through a week without ESPN, cell phones, and computers and not missing them at all!

This is only the beginning of a list of first times for this trip. Pastor Christian Altidor spoke of his church of 1500 people and his school that struggles to meet the financial demands. his country has been devastated by hurricanes over the last few years with thousands losing everything they had.

But the thing that struck me so much was his personal story he shared that was truly a testimony of faithfulness.

In a poor country surrounded by the darkness and evil of voodoo and witchcraft, he has been faithful to his wife for 52 years. She is now blind and paralyzed from diabetes. He has 7 children ad 22 grandchildren. Yet he lives on a monthly salary that most of us make in a few days in the states.

He has also been faithful in ministry since 1952! He said to me "God always provides."

The American church can learn a lot from stories like that of Christian Altidor. It's not about the numbers or the programs, it's about being faithful to what God has called you to do. The harvest is up to God. It's about being faithful to the spouse that God has given you and to the family God has blessed you with.

I thank God for my wife of almost 30 years and my 3 sons that I am blessed with. And I thank God for the flock of families God has asked me to shepherd at Quest.

How about you? Does Christian's story challenge you? How faithful are you?

Feb Devo

I recently preached on the power of persistence. I focused on the miracle found in Matthew 15:21-28 and Mark 7:24-30. The woman who pleaded for healing for her daughter was very persistent. Jesus recognized how strong her faith was from her persistence. It was been said by many that character and leadership qualities are discovered not by what you accomplish in the good times, but by what it is that causes you to quit when going through the tough times.
How persistent are you? What causes you to retreat or quit? Are you persistent in your pursuit of spiritual truth? When the Cards were down by 13, I said it's over. But they did not quit. Neither did the black and gold as they marched down and threw the winning TD to Holmes in the corner of the endzone.

This Sunday I got to watch a game in my backyard that showed a lot of persistence as well. But when He got in the boat with them, the storm calmed down and they began to worship Him. It was when they discovered the real Jesus that they worshipped him.
The storms swirling around us are very real, the characters are real, the circumstance is real. But in those storms, is Jesus real to us or is He just a phantom? Can we truly and fully worship Him if He is not real to us? If He calls us out of the boat, do we have the faith to 'walk on water' or will we remain with the crowd where we think it is safe? To be real worshipper, discover the real Jesus.

Overcomers

Well, as us Raven fans lick our wounds from a brutal loss to the dastardly black and gold, I had to redirect my attitude to stay positive. I began to think about all of the things that the Ravens, and yes even the steelers, had to overcome to make it this far. For the Ravens, no one gave them a chance at the beginning of the season. The "experts" were saying a .500 club at best. The Ravens had to overcome incredible injuries throughout the year to key players. They had to go with a rookie QB that no one had heard of. They had to go with a rookie head coach. And on and on I could go.

My point is this. What kind of obstacles have you had to overcome to get where you are now? How did God overcome them for you? What obstacles may lie ahead of you this year? How can you keep your attitude on the positive side when faced with these obstacles? 1 John 5:4 reminds us 'for everyone born of God overcomes the world.' We may not always make it to the 'big show', but we can be overcomers.

Jan. Who was this invader? Our 8 ft sappy spruce tree who will be spending the Christmas season with us. These trees look so small in the field...
As I struggled to set this beast up, we were persistent in getting this done in the small amount of time we had to do so. To add to the experience, the tree was wet making the experience even more special.
It's amazing what we can do when we really want to accomplish something. How persistent are we in our ministry? our marriages? our daily walk? our evangelism? Are we doing just what it takes to get by or are we persistent in getting the job done well?

Play ball

Today I woke up to hear of the bulging contract offered from the NY Yankees to CC Sabathia-7 yr/$161 million! That contract if offered to sponsor starving, dying, orphaned children for Food for the Hungry at $32 month would provide 7 years of support for 60,000 children each year for 7 years. Friday night our entire family gathered for dinner at the annual Farm Bureau Christmas dinner-entertainment provided by the Willets-including bad jokes, original poetry, puppets giving Christmas story and of course lots of carols. Then we come home and view my favorite seasonal movie-Christmas Vacation.
Sat afternoon, I find myself splitting and gathering wood for the fireplace and then our first snow begins to fall.
All of this made me think of the value of family. Every family has their differences and traditions. But it's not about everything looking perfect. it's not about everyone looking their best and the house being spotless. It is about time spent with one another.
Every family has a 'Clark Griswold' trying to make everything perfect. Every family has a teenage 'Audrey' trying so hard to be cool. Then there is the 'Uncle Lewis', who is just oblivious to others around him.-don't let him near your tree. And don't forget the elderly and cynical in-laws that notice that the "lights are not twinkling". And of course we can't leave out 'Cousin Eddie'.You know who he is in your family-we've all got one right?
What are you focused on this Christmas season? How do you deal with 'the family'? Have a hap-hap happy Christmas season.

Christmas Boxes

Last night my sons and I went on the annual trek to the attic-this year to my son's attic because ours is full-to get ALL of the Christmas boxes down for decoration. My lovely wife loves to decorate(she does a great job), I on the other hand love it when it is done and I sit by the fire with my of cup of java and admire all of the hard work as I watch Christmas Vacation.
But as we carried all of the boxes down the attic steps, I began to think how for some this may be the only time they bring Jesus into the light. Do we keep him wrapped up and protected the rest of the year? Do we hide him securely as if he will break inder pressure? Are we afraid to keep Jesus out for all to see year round year? Why? He's not going to break. Will he embarass you? I don't think so.
I encourage you to not be ashamed of Jesus this Christmas season. But in Jan., consider keeping him out of the attic. What a difference it will make.

True Christianity

After doing a recent study of world religions and how they compare to Christianity, I believe what really separates a true Christian from other religious beliefs is the word relationship. While all other religions command or require a certain amount of works and commitment from their followers, Christianity asks for a relationship.
That relationship starts with us and Jesus Christ. Then it moves to our relationships with others around us-family, neighbors, acquaintances, co-workers, classmates, etc.
Because Christianity is about relationships, it is possible to be disappointed. The closer the level of intimacy, the higher the risk of pain or hurt. People will let people down. The ones closest to you usually are the ones who hurt you the most-it's just a fact of life.
But staying outside of community and relationships is not healthy either. Everyone needs that brother or sister to lend a helping hand, or give a hug or encouraging word. If you are out there as a lone ranger, you will feel the world is out to get you.
Life is hard, it is fragile, but it can be an exciting adventure when you love God and love others. Make the best of it-make your life an adventure, a journey. Work hard on your relationship with God and with others. It will be worth it.
